Cixin Liu

Henan (China), 1963

Cixin Liu is the most prolific and popular science fiction author in the People’s Republic of China.

Liu has been awarded the Galaxy Award eight times (the Chinese equivalent of the Hugo Award) and the Chinese Nebula Award, before turning his Three-Body Trilogy into a work that sold one million copies in China alone, captured the unanimous interest of the Western world, won the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Novel with the present title, and gained endorsements from figures such as Barack Obama and Mark Zuckerberg.

His enormous success is now being replicated across international markets, thanks not only to genre fans but also—and especially—to the millions of readers interested in geopolitics and in China’s past and future.

It is these readers who have turned a complete unknown from the most mysterious and hermetic East into one of the literary sensations of recent years.

Before becoming a writer, Liu worked as an engineer at a power plant in the Chinese city of Yangquán, in Shanxi province, which is now temporarily closed due to air pollution.
