Elio Quiroga

Elio Quiroga is a film director, producer, and screenwriter. He has directed feature films such as Fotos—winner of Best Screenplay and a Special Jury Mention at Sitges and a favorite of Quentin Tarantino—La Hora Fría, No-Do, and the documentary The Mystery of the King of Kinema—Special Jury Mention at the Gijón Film Festival—having also co-written the screenplay for Daniel Calparsoro’s Ausentes alongside Ray Loriga.

His animated short Home Delivery, adapted from a Stephen King story, presented by Guillermo del Toro and featuring music by REM, won the Grand Prize at Fantasporto and competed in the Official Sections of over a hundred festivals. His next animated short, Me llamo María, was shortlisted for the 2011 Oscars. He was nominated for a Goya Award for his documentary short El Último Minutero, which also competed in the Official Section of the Karlovy Vary Festival.

He has published novels such as the zombie satire El despertar with Timun Mas, the action-fantasy thriller Los códices del Apocalipsis with Tyrannosaurus Books, and Idyll, part of Dolmen Editorial’s Stoker collection.

He received the Canarias New Writing Award for his poetry collection Ática and the runner-up prize of the Everis Essay Award for La Materia de los Sueños.

In 2015, he won the Minotauro Novel Prize for Los que sueñan (Ediciones Minotauro).
